Published 06.06.13

This is a newly launched school-based scheme to provide financial support and improve access to the growing number of postgraduate students from African nations choosing to study in the School of Applied Social Science.

One award of a £4,000 fee reduction is offered for study in the academic year 2013/14.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for this scholarship you need to:

  • hold an offer of admission to a one year, full-time masters programme in one of the taught postgraduate courses in the School of Applied Social Science by the closing date for the scholarships. This offer can be unconditional or conditional (but the scholarship will not be confirmed until the conditions are met).
  • be a national from, and be residing in, one of the African nations.

Criteria

The criteria for awarding the African student scholarship is primarily merit-based. Merit does not necessarily have to mean academic merit but could also be interpreted to include outstanding performance in a variety of spheres.

The strongest candidates will be those demonstrating a mixture of academic merit (including English language ability) and other merit or outstanding achievement in a particular field of activity.

You will also need to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to pay the remainder of the fees.

Please send a statement of no more than 500 words to Anne Sheldrick A.L.Sheldrick@brighton.ac.uk explaining how you meet the eligibility criteria.
