Information for organisations
Students on the Community Participation and Development (CPD) module are encouraged to link theory learned on their courses to practice in the statutory or voluntary sector and, by reflecting on the experience, can gain academic credit for their work.
Students will need to do at least 50 hours of practical work. They will be asked to do an analysis of the structure and culture of the organisation in which they are based and an evaluative report reflecting on their own skills development. While it will not involve the organisation in any additional responsibility students may need access to mission or policy statements and it may be useful for them to talk through how decisions are made within the organisation itself.
Students undertaking this module are required to carry out a Health and Safety check with their organisation before beginning their work and will produce an outline plan detailing their role and any training or clearance procedures. They will be attending regular tutorials and seminars where their work will be closely supervised and you will have access to the name and email address of their module tutor. Organisations are encouraged to make contact directly with the module tutor if at any time there is concern about a student's commitment or their work.
We will be holding matching events where organisations looking for volunteers can come along and meet students from the module to discuss their opportunity. If you would like to promote your volunteering opportunity to students undertaking a community-based placement as part of their degree or to student volunteers who are volunteering in addition to their degree, then please complete the online volunteering opportunity form.
