Age and ageing

The age and ageing programme brings together individuals from a range of disciplinary backgrounds with a common interest in age and ageing. There are a number of themes that permeate our areas of interest which include: identity; participation; place; wellbeing; care.

We are working on a diverse range of topics including family and inter-generational relationships; networks and care relationships; the care workforce; time and the passage of time in modern culture; the body / embodiment; ageing and technology; dementia. As a group we have strong policy and practice links with community and statutory organisations both through commissioned work and joint initiatives. We are currently working in partnership with Age UK Brighton & Hove. This innovative project involves working with Age UK volunteers as older co-researchers researching older people's well-being. It has received ESRC funding to work with older people and social care practitioners to develop learning resources from the research (see project page)
