Thesis title:
The nature and influence of dialogical self and narrative processes in counselling and psychotherapy
This research proposes to explore the nature and influence of stories (narratives) and characters (dialogical positions) in counselling and psychotherapy. Research into therapeutic processes allows for research which can benefit all therapists and clients. The particular way in which I intend to explore therapeutic processes will allow new understandings about how stories and characters manifest in therapy sessions.
The questions I am exploring are: (1) What are the nature and influence of dialogical positioning and narrative processes in therapy? and (2) How are these processes perceived by the participants? The aims of the research are to: (1) explore the nature and influence of dialogical positioning and narrative processes in therapy, (2) explore how the participants perceive these processes and (3) to contribute to the development of professional practice more informed by understandings of dialogical positioning and narrative processes.]
