Why study social science?
Social science is a broad term for subject areas that involve the study of human society and individual relationships in and to society. These subject areas include all of those offered by the School of Applied Social Science – applied psychology, criminology, sociology, social policy and politics.
Undergraduate courses in social science
At undergraduate level we offer the following social science degree:
This course allows you to choose from a wide range of modules from across each of these subject areas. It is a very flexible, allowing you to tailor the degree towards your own social science interests, studying as broad or as narrow a mix of subjects as you prefer. This course will develop your academic and transferable skills. In particular, you can expect to become a skilled reader, writer and debater with enhanced analysis skills and of critical and creative thinking.
Our social science degree enables students to acquire the essential research skills needed for investigating experience and behaviour. They are supported in developing the ability to conduct research independently.
Placement opportunities
There are also opportunities for international study on our exchange programme, and to undertake a community-based placement in year 2 or 3.
