21st European Society on Biomaterials Conference 2007 The biomedical Materials Research Group hosted the 21st European Conference on Biomaterials in Brighton, UK. The meeting jointly chaired by Professor Andrew Lloyd (Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering), Dr Matteo Santin (Reader) and Dr Gary Phillips, Principle research fellow attracted over 500 delegates from 37 different countries.
New EPSRC Grant Professor Sergei Sahzin, Professor of Thermal Physics, has received a grant of £9643 from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council for a project entitled "Application of a kinetic numerical algorithm to modelling diesel fuel droplets evaporation".
New Interreg IIIA Grant Prof Geoff Hanlon and Dr Matteo Santin from the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, and Dr Huw Taylor from the School of the Environment have secured a FRANCO-BRITISH INTERREG IIIA, 2000-2006 Programme Grant for a project named: ADVANCED MONITORING AND CONTROL OF MICROBIAL WATER QUALITY (AMACOM) worth in total £402,000
Finding out about floods Improvements in flood forecasting call for new ways of measuring and monitoring groundwater in rocks. Now Brighton geologists are part of a combined French and British Geological Surveys team to do just that. Their research, funded by a £2.2 million Interreg 111A grant, aims to improve understanding of the mechanisms holding water in rock or chalk and how it is released and drained.
Trainee biomedical scientists ‘earn while they learn’ A new work-based BSc(Hons) Applied Biomedical Sciences programme, designed to tackle national and regional shortages of state registered bio-medical scientists, was officially launched at the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences on 23 September.
