Screen Archive South East serves the East of the South East of England as represented geographically by the local authorities of Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, Kent, Medway, Surrey and West Sussex.

The Archive is part of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Brighton and it operates within the University’s articles of government. The University provides the archive with staff, office accommodation, support services, access to the University’s audio-visual and computing facilities and revenue support.

The West Sussex Record Office (WSRO) provides the Screen Archive with its Repository and Conservation Centre. This represents an environmentally-controlled strong room for the Screen Archive’s collection (non-nitrate) and office accommodation and support services for the Screen Archive South East's Archivist and preservation and production staff. In accordance with national archive standards, The Screen Archive and WSRO take joint responsibility for the best available care and preservation of the moving image material in the collection.
The archive has an alliance with the Wessex Film & Sound Archive at Hampshire Record Office, the region’s other public sector audiovisual archive. The ambition of both the Screen Archive and Wessex is to extend our audiovisual archive services to the Isle of Wight and the north of the region ( Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes). A report on this and the related creation of a federated regional audiovisual archive service was prepared for SEMLAC (Now Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA)) in 2004.
