Brief project description

The aims of this EPSRC studentship, co-funded by Aquaread Ltd. are to provide the scientific evidence required to: (a) support the development of ecosystems-based water quality guidelines for particulate matter, & (b) support the innovation of more advanced monitoring technologies for particulate matter in aquatic environments. In order to address these aims, the studentship has three key objectives:

  • Quantify & model the dynamics of particulate matter observed in contrasting ecosystems that are in reference condition (i.e. minimal anthropogenic disturbance).
  • Identify the specific properties of particulate material that are important in determining their ecological impact.
  • Evaluate the optimal technological approaches for monitoring particulate material in these different ecosystems.
