- Academic secretary of the Association of Southeast Asian Studies Committee
- Research focuses on environment, development and migration in Southeast Asia
- Currently involved in a three year project on Revisiting Gender in Development: Complex Inequalities in a Changing Asia, funded by the Research Council of Norway and with partners from Norway, Denmark, Malaysia, Thailand and China.
- Joined the University of Brighton in 1996 after completing a PhD at Wye College, University of London
