Research
- Coastal planning and regeneration (Project GIFS - Geography of Inshore Fishing and Sustainability awarded in November 2011 for three years under the INTERREG IVA: 2 Seas Programme. This project, with the University of Greenwich as LP) explores the role of marine fishing in the creation of place identity and sustainable communities in case studies in England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
- Employment and regeneration (Project SolidarCity - awarded under INTERREG IVC Priority 1 funding to look at the role and involvement of local & regional authorities and civic society in employment generation opportunities. The main objective of this 3-year €1.5million project, with academic, local and regional actors in the UK, Greece, Finland, Bulgaria, Italy and Romania, is to develop joint strategies and implementation measures focusing on employment rate increase in the EU)
- The social and spatial production of injustice (Gated Communities)
- Megaprojects and 'imagineered' urbanism in Dubai
- Military brownfields and the reuse of redundant defence estates (awards from the RIBA Research Trust and the Bill Sargent Trust of the First Wessex Group in Portsmouth)

- Undertaken several international consultancy assignments over a 17-year period in the areas of strategy development. master planning and capacity building in Jordan, Palestine, India, Cuba, Qatar, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Scotland and England
