Dr Huw Taylor of the School of Environment and Technology has been appointed to the executive board of the International Collaboratory for Sewage - a new global initiative that brings together forty one institutions in twenty eight countries, with the aim of increasing our understanding of the impact of sewage on water quality and health throughout the world. Worldwide, there are 884 million people without access to improved water sources and sewage remains the primary source of contaminants in water.
Dr Taylor's appointment follows his contribution to the global development of Microbial Source Tracking (MST) and his current leadership of AquaManche – a European Regional Development Fund supported collaboration with UK and French partners. Huw said: "This is a great honour, but more importantly it reflects the hard work of several postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers in our Environment and Public Health Research Unit (EPHRU) over the past ten years”.
