Professor Tony Haymet of Scripps Institution of Oceanography in California will give a presentation on Tuesday 23 October 1-2 pm in Cockcroft Lecture Theatre 1 entitled: Science and the Environment: if Governments are frozen, how much can we do with the business community? This is a joint initiative between Brighton Business School and the School of Environment and Technology. Professor Haymet is a distinguished scientist, educator, policy advisor and business development leader. Since 2006 he has been Professor of Oceanography at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego, and Director and Vice-Chancellor for Marine Sciences. He says 'Governments in developed countries seem "frozen" when it comes to take new action on the environment. Do we do nothing until they "melt", or take action using the available non-government actors. My talk at Brighton will explore the latter course'.

Tony is also co-founder and Chair of CleanTech San Diego, an organization promoting and supporting clean technology businesses, now with over 100 members. Since 2009 he has served as a part-time Strategic Advisor to Pegasus Capital Advisers on matters relating to the environment, oceans, food security and climate change. He is elected to and serves upon numerous national and international boards and committees and is a frequent contributor of Op-Ed pieces to newspapers around the world. He has also contributed to the World Economic Forum meetings in Davos, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and to climate meetings in Copenhagen and Cancun, and a guest of leading radio and TV analysis programmes.

Tony Haymet brings to the understanding of the natural world a business focus and understanding of ocean resources, in all their forms, and technological solution to analysing and monitoring greenhouse gas emissions.

Professor Haymet will be giving his open lecture on Tuesday 23 October 1-2 pm in Cockcroft Lecture Theatre 1 (CG24).

ALL WELCOME.
