A conference in January hosted by the School of Environment and Technology in conjunction with the Sussex Wildlife Trust (SWT) was a great success. The conference was organised in order to showcase the latest research and management initiatives for rivers and wetlands in Sussex, and to nourish collaboration between scientists and practitioners. Over 200 delegates representing conservation charities, governmental bodies, landowners, community groups, consultancies and universities attended, not just from Sussex but all over England and Wales. Delegates were treated to thirteen fascinating presentations, ranging from a discussion of the implications of reintroducing the beaver to analysis of the predicted effects of sea level rise on Sussex wetlands. The Chief Executive of the SWT, Dr Tony Whitbread, summed up the meeting when he said that there had been "a fantastic buzz about the whole day". Outputs from the conference will be available on the SWT website in due course.
