In recent years, students have been successful in competing for positions advertised nationally such as with the Department for Energy and Climate Change, with Transport for London, the Field Studies Council and at the Atomic Weapons Establishment. Other students have secured placements with environmental firms and consultancies (working on energy assessments and water network planning), with a multi-national telecommunications company (developing environmental policies and actions), at a renewable energy research centre in Spain and working with the Sustainable Development Unit within the University.
The types of placement positions students are offered within these organisations are for example as Environmental Affairs Assistants, Trainee Energy Consultants or Environmental Campaign Assistants. The Department for Energy and Climate Change host placements which run across energy consumption statistics, oil and gas information systems and electricity, gas and coal statistics.
Some students may also have access to data and materials through their placement that they go on to use in their final year projects.
