Since graduating I've worked in the water industry, so my environmental studies have helped in understanding the treatment of water and studying hydraulics gave me a thorough background to do calculations to design efficient systems.
One of my main projects has been investigating the causes and repairing damage to the largest reservoir in Florida. It has involved a lot of fieldwork (which is quite nice in Florida) and innovative thinking too. It has also been a public affairs nightmare (having cost $150 million to build), so we have been helping minimising damage by pre-empting events and responding accordingly.
I have also been tasked with designing a pipeline to convey water from a well to a treatment plant and I’m about to start work on the installation of a sewer line. I’m proud that I have done so much since I graduated.
I'm currently working towards a LEED certification (the qualification for "green" building in America) and plan to use that in every avenue of my future work.
