Our research-informed teaching will support you to become an independent learner, with the ability to develop and apply your knowledge in your dissertation project and future career.

The School of Environment and Technology has attracted over £7 million of external research funding in the last three years. Our research projects focus on important issues, such as drinking water quality, reclaiming land, and using water sustainably within buildings.

The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise confirmed that 90 per cent of research submitted by the school was of international standing. With over 90 staff and PhD students engaged in research, you will be part of a supportive and innovative research community.

Career-focused

93 per cent of our Construction Management degree students from 2010 were in relevant employment or undertaking further studies six months after graduating. Taking a work placement between years 2 and 3 is actively encouraged as you will be able to put your new knowledge and skills into action, and gain valuable work experience.

Built environment and civil engineering graduates have gone on to careers with organisations including the Environment Agency, Halcrow, Hemsley Orrell Partnership, Southern Water, Morgan Sindall and WS Atkins.

Facilities fit for the future

Based in the Cockcroft building our specialist facilities include:

  • a well-equipped structural testing lab with three hydraulically-powered actuators
  • geotechnical research facilities that have recently benefited from research council and university funding
  • a recently renovated hydraulics laboratory including a large research flume with computer-controlled  wave generation system and
  • specialist construction-related software.

Brighton & Hove is Britain’s liveliest seaside city. Located to the north of Brighton city centre, facilities on the Moulsecoomb campus include two restaurants, five cafes, two banks, two Students’ Union shops and a nursery.
