With over 55 academic and research staff, and 38 PhD students, we are a lively research community. We are interested in the interaction between humans and the natural, built and engineered environment, and the use of effective design and technology to produce sustainable solutions.

Much of our work has direct real-world application. We have developed strong links with industry, commerce and civil society and have several Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with local and national businesses. We work in close collaboration with companies such as ExxonMobil, Churngold, Ministry of Defence, Atomic Weapons Establishment, Southern Water, Environment Agency, Forestry Commission and international NGOs and governments.
