The School of Environment and Technology undertakes multi-disciplinary research broadly grouped under five themes:
- Applied geosciences
- Ecology, landscape and pollution management
- Society, space and environment
- Ground, water and structural engineering
- Sustainable construction and environmental planning
The School’s Research Strategy for 2009-2012 has four immediate aims to:
- Strengthen and extend current areas of excellence with the aim to develop nationally/internationally recognised centres of expertise
- Nurture and proactively support the development of Early Career Researchers to ensure their research reaches international levels of excellence
- Promote multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research activity which fosters international and national collaboration as well as links within the University
- Provide support to staff whose research aligns with areas outside the core themes
The School Research Strategy also looks beyond the REF and has the long-term aim of ‘90% of academic and research staff to be undertaking research that is judged to meet international standards of excellence by 2020’.
Further details on our ambitious Research Strategy are available from Professor Andy Cundy.
