The University of Brighton has over 2100 staff working on four campuses in Brighton and Eastbourne. The School of Nursing and Midwifery has 165 staff based in five locations. The majority of staff and students are based on the Falmer Campus, Brighton. Staff are also located on sites on the Eastbourne campus and District General Hospital, Conquest Hospital, Hastings and Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.

All staff, academic, administrative, support and technical, play a role in supporting students and contribute to the teaching, research and consultancy achievements of the university.

The school has 10 key academic subject and practice development groups to which all academic staff belong. These subjects underpin the curriculum and are engaged in research, scholarly activity and practice development activities. They are as follows:

  • Child health
  • Clinical and technical skills
  • Psychosocial context of care -including human relationships, social policy and sociology
  • International health studies and liaison
  • Mental health and learning disabilities
  • Midwifery
  • Nursing - including specialty sub groups such as advanced practice and care of older people
  • Professional knowledge - including sub groups in management skills, research methods, education studies, professional regulation, law and ethics and interprofessional learning
  • Public health and primary care - including community specialist practice
  • Structure and function of the human body

We provide courses for pre- and post-qualifying nurses and midwives at foundation degree, diploma, undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels. This offers a wide variety of teaching and research opportunities and administration roles.
