Profile
Karen trained as a nurse at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London and worked as a staff nurse there following registration. She moved to Sussex in 1983 and worked at RSCH in Brighton on ITU where she gained her ENB 100. A move to Southlands followed in 1985 where Karen worked firstly as a Night Sister and then as the Recovery Ward Sister in Theatres.
In 1990 Karen became a Practice Nurse in West Sussex, gaining a BSc (Hons) in Nursing Studies and the title Specialist Practitioner in General Practice Nursing. She also undertook the role of Practice Educator for West Sussex Health Authority whilst working as a Practice Nurse and moved to full-time lecturing at the university in January 2002.
Karen gained her PgCHSCE as part of her Master's programme and completed her MA in Nursing Studies and Education in 2005. She is currently a student within the Doctoral College studying for a PhD through a programme of work examining spiritual care within nursing.
