Midwifery sign-off mentor preparation module

This is a 20 credit module offered at Level 6 and 7, which has been developed in line with the Standards for Learning and Assessment in Practice (NMC 2008), and has involved trust representatives, service users and students.

Nurses and allied health professionals access this interprofessional module, alongside midwifery colleagues who are undertaking the midwifery sign-off mentor preparation module.

Successful completion of the module will enable qualified practitioners to practice as mentors or practice placement educators. Midwives are prepared as midwifery sign off mentors as part of this module. It is your responsibility to inform your employer when you have successfully passed the module.

Module structure

The module is composed of five study days (30 hours) and a minimum of five practice- related days (30 hours), plus self-directed study (140 hours) towards completion of the module assessment. The module is normally completed within three months.
