Study skills are a vital component of successful study in higher education, whether you need to brush up on your note taking or learn how to read more effectively.
The school offers four different study skills options for post-registration students, from a traditional level two module to an innovative study skills module delivered online.
Study skills options
Study skills and IT
This is a highly successful level 2 module which has been running for a number of years. The module is run over the course of five full days during a semester and is appropriate for:
- Students who have never written an academic essay at diploma level.
- International/EU students whose nursing/midwifery qualifications have been checked on the NARIC database as equivalent to level 1 (certificate level) in the UK.
- Students who have been advised by the course leader or module leader to undertake study skills before starting another course such as mentorship.

Intensive study skills and IT
This is an intensive version of the above module which normally runs at the end of June/beginning of July. The module is appropriate for the same students who take the extensive version.
Completed applications should be returned to Lawrence Daley as above.
One-day study skills
Throughout the academic year the school runs a number of one-day study skills workshops as part of the school's study days and workshops programme. The dates are published on the Study days and workshops programme website.
Typically the one-day study skills workshops are appropriate for:
- Students who have written an academic essay at degree/diploma level, usually within the last five years but no more than ten years ago and who want to brush up their study skills.
- International/EU students whose nursing/midwifery qualifications have been checked on the NARIC database as equivalent to level two or three.
- Students who have been advised by the course leader or module leader to undertake study skills before starting another course such as mentorship.

Online study skills module
This is a new 10 credit module which is delivered entirely online in one semester.
The criteria for undertaking this module are:
- Students who have NEVER undertaken a referenced academic essay at degree level.
- Recognition and desire to undertake this module to develop a repertoire of computer skills in order to take this module in an online environment.
- Students advised by course leader (or module leader undertaking the role of admissions tutor) and supported by their manager. This must be recorded on a student tutorial or application form.
- Students who request to attend and are supported by their manager.
