Excellent outcomes from Nursing and Midwifery Council visit

Published 27.04.10

Four reviewers plus an observer made their annual visit to the school in late February, this time examining three areas of our provision: pre-registration nursing (with adult placements); supervisor of midwives; and specialist practice qualification district nursing with integrated nurse prescribing.

The outcome was "Good" in all categories for the level of risk control against their stringent criteria.

The criteria cover resources, admissions and progression, practice learning, fitness for practise and quality assurance. More details can be obtained from www.nmc-uk.org where the results will be published .

This is particularly positive given the complexity of our provision and the range of courses examined (diploma and undergraduate for pre-registration, and in continuing professional development at both undergraduate and masters level). The visit also covered both nursing (in all specialisms) and midwifery provision.

Thanks are due to the large number of students, staff and colleagues in our practice partner placement areas who were involved in meeting with the examiners and guiding them around the locality.
