A new textbook edited by two acute care lecturers at the University of Brighton was published in March 2010. 'Care of the acutely ill adult: an essential guide for nurses' edited by Fiona Creed and Chrissie Spiers is published by Oxford University Press.
This key textbook aims to equip nurses with the knowledge and skills required to care for the deteriorating patient in the clinical environment. Derived from the recent NICE guidelines and the Department of Health competencies, it emphasises the assessment, recognition and rapid escalation required for this group of patients.
