Shirley Bach, head of the University of Brighton’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, has been made Professor of Nursing Education.
The award followed a meeting of the University Professorial Board and was announced by Professor Stuart Laing, the university's Deputy Vice-Chancellor and was awarded in recognition of her very significant national and international achievements.
Professor Bach has been involved in nursing education since 1988 and her academic studies are in the field of applied psychology. She developed curricula from pre-registration undergraduate courses through to masters level and doctoral studies.
A co-founder of the European Academy of Caring Science, Professor Bach's interests include creative approaches to teaching in online learning as a complementary form of education and international collaboration.
She is senior editor for the Transforming Nursing Series of text books which support new undergraduate nursing programmes and which have been adopted nationally in curricula.
She said: "I am delighted with the honour and would like to take this opportunity to thank all the hard working members of staff and the students who have helped build on the school's excellent reputation both here in the UK and around the world."
