  • Are you working with or bringing up children and young people where the odds are stacked against them?
  • Committed to the task but feel you don't always have the tools to do it well?
  • Maybe even feeling at a disadvantage yourself?
  • Curious about resilience?

This one day master class will introduce you to a user-friendly way of working designed for all practitioners, and parent carers, to use in everyday ways. Research shows that ideas from the resilience field are helpful in improving outcomes for children. But much of it has yet to be translated and applied to practice in a realistic way. Resilient Therapy ™ (RT) is a methodology designed by Professor Angie Hart and Dr Derek Blincow that does just that.

By the end of this session, you will have:

  • Increased your understanding of the research on resilience
  • Learnt ways of practically applying RT to those challenging situations you are managing at work or at home
  • Gathered new strategies to make what you do more effective
  • Renewed purpose and enthusiasm for your work

Angie Hart is Professor of Child, Family and Community Health at the University of Brighton. A mother of three adopted children with special needs and a child and family therapist working with families struggling to cope, she has published widely on health and social care services to children, their families and supporters, including two books on Resilient Therapy.

Derek Blincow studied social philosophy before taking up medicine and psychiatry. He has worked for 20 years as a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist, acts as an external advisor and expert witness to the Family Courts and is currently lead psychiatrist at the High Dependency Unit for adolescents at Ticehurst Hospital.
