Innovative and relevant
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) commended the school for working with stakeholders and service-users when designing our new pre-registration degree, the first of its kind to be approved in the South-East Coast region.
Most pre-registration nursing and midwifery students have the chance to experience nursing and midwifery in another country.
A leading professional university
Our courses are recognised by professional bodies, the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Health Professions Council.
Our staff are leading researchers and teachers, at forefront of their professions. Professor Shirley Bach, head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, is a founding member of the European Academy of Caring Science. Professor Julie Scholes is editor in chief of the Open Nursing Journal and co-editor of Nursing in Critical Care.
Career focused
We educate the next generation of nurses, midwives and paramedics, and provide a wide-range of continuing education opportunities for qualified practitioners to extend and develop specialist and advanced practice skills at top-up degree or masters level.
Our close links with local healthcare trusts allow our pre-registration nursing, midwifery and paramedic practice students to gain experience of practice on placements in clinical and non-clinical healthcare locations across Sussex.
Excellence in teaching and support
We provide high quality teaching and research with an applied focus for practitioners and researchers in health at every stage of their professional lives.
You will be supported by a personal tutor and mentors who will lead and manage your experience in clinical practice.
Facilities and campuses in outstanding locations
Courses are taught on the university's campuses at Falmer and Eastbourne. We have practice locations across Sussex including in Brighton, Eastbourne, Worthing, Haywards Heath, East Grinstead and Hastings. The rich variety of settings will give you a comprehensive experience of contemporary healthcare.
There is a dedicated Clinical Skills Laboratory on each of our three teaching sites with state-of-the-art facilities including child and adult physiological mannequins. Here, pre-registration students practice skills in a safe environment under supervision. They are also used to teach physical assessment and other skills to advanced practitioners.
Our new community flat includes two-way mirrors and observation rooms and will be used by students practicing skills for scenarios encountered in a community-setting.
