Profile

Dr Anne Mandy is a Reader within the School of Health Professions and Director of Postgraduate Research Studies in the Brighton Doctoral College Eastbourne site. Her role is to manage all the doctoral students on the Eastbourne site. This involves development of the doctoral research training and responding to the needs of supervisors and students. In her role as reader she is actively researching in the field of assistive technology working closely with colleagues in the local trusts in the development of a Neater Uni-wheelchair and with colleagues in Chailey Heritage in the field of postural management.

Anne obtained her PhD from University of Brighton in 1996, her MSc from University of Surrey in 1991 and her BSc (Hons) from the Polytechnic of Central London in 1987.

She was a senior lecturer in the school of Health Professions and was responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate research methods and health psychology modules and also project tutor. In 1999 she was appointed as Senior Research Fellow to the Clinical Research Centre in the School of Health Professions.

Teaching

Dr Mandy has experience of teaching research processes, methods and analysis at both undergraduate and graduate level and is currently external examiner for these subjects at Anglia Ruskin University and also the Royal College of Nursing.

Dr Mandy also taught health psychology to allied health professionals and published the first psychology text book for podiatrists entitled 'Psychosocial Approaches to Podiatry'. She has also contributed chapters in textbooks fo other health professions.

Additional Roles

Dr Mandy is also a HDT grant reviewer for the Department of Health.

Research

Her research interests involve health psychology for allied health professionals, the impact of the ageing population on allied health care professionals, and the development of a wheelchair with a novel steering mechanism for hemiplegic patients. Dr Mandy is a grant holder on several funded projects including a DoH HTD grant.
