A revolutionary wheelchair for stroke sufferers and hemiplegic patients developed by Dr Anne Mandy's research team has been donated to Brian Pettit during a presentation at Chaseley Trust, Eastbourne, where Mr Pettit receives his physiotherapy care.

Dr Anne Mandy, who lead the research, said "The wheelchair gives people who have lost the use of one arm and one leg the ability to propel a specially designed wheelchair with the use of their good arm and steer with their good leg. It has totally changed users' lives and given them their independence."

Brian said "The wheelchair is easy to use and efficient in its manoeuvrability. It feels safe and has increased my feelings of independence."

The project was funded by the Department of Health and the wheelchair will be produced by one of the project's partners, Neater Solutions.
