Physiotherapists offer free advice on the streets of Eastbourne

Published 15.05.09

The team from Physiotherapy at the Leaf (School of Health Professions) were out in force in Eastbourne town centre during April.

Physiotherapy at the Leaf is a physiotherapy clinic providing advanced musculoskeletal physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients in the Eastbourne and East Sussex area. It is a University of Brighton-run project, in partnership with East Sussex Downs and Weald PCT and based at the Leaf Hospital, in Eastbourne.

The team, including Chartered Physiotherapists Matt Daly and Nikki Petty, were offering a free advisory service to local shoppers suffering with musculoskeletal aches and pains.

"We have been out in Eastbourne town centre on four separate occasions now," principal lecturer Nikki Petty explains.

"Amazingly, the vast majority of shoppers that we spoke to were experiencing musculoskeletal aches and pains but not seeking any professional help. People commonly complained of neck, back, shoulder and knee aches and pains. We were able to provide a brief examination with some free advice and education which was very well received. Some of the people we met have since decided to try physiotherapy and have booked an appointment to see Matt Daly at the clinic."

The team from Physiotherapy at the Leaf will be out in Eastbourne offering advice regularly over the course of the summer.
