Students support London Marathon runners

Published 17.05.10

100 Physiotherapy BSc(Hons) students supported runners by giving them post-run massages at the London Marathon on 25 April 2010.

The students gave up their time and paid for travel up to London to help the marathon runners. A number of societies requested help from the School of Health Professions so that runners who were raising money for the Parkinson's Society, Leonard Cheshire and the Alzheimer's Society could relax and have a massage afterwards. They had the opportunity to meet runners at the finish line and cheer them on during breaks in their work.

The students were helped by some of our recent graduates who had also volunteered to help on the day. This was a great opportunity for our students to practice their skills with needy runners and everyone who went seemed to thoroughly enjoy the day. We hope to continue our support at next year's race and at the Brighton marathon.
