Structure of the Clinical Research Centre

The Clinical Research Centre, led by Professor Ann Moore, is the central focus of the school's research activity.

The school's Research Strategy Committee meets three times a year with responsibility for:

  • strategic planning of research activity within the school,
  • planning developments of collaborative work,
  • fostering links with outside agencies (including research units within the university),
  • planning research events, lectures and workshops that involve all school staff,
  • overseeing the small research project grant scheme.

We are a multi-disciplinary unit that parrallels the nature of work in the clinical setting. The centre has developed three fundamental research strands which form the basis of our strategic plan:

  1. Applied clinical and laboratory-based research
  2. Applied pedagogic research
  3. Wellbeing, health and occupation research

Staff are encouraged to concentrate their research efforts within these major strands. Much of the research activity focuses on musculoskeletal topic areas and on the wellbeing, health and occupation of older people.

The staff of the School of Health Professions meet for research-related workshops, presentations, seminars and lectures. Research seminars are held regularly at which students and staff can present their own research ideas/findings to their peers. Regular research training and development sessions are also facilitated within the centre. These seminars are open to both staff and research students.

There is an emphasis within the centre on facilitating quality output in those who are research active and recognising the need to balance publication in academic journals with publication in professional journals in order to maximise impact on professional practice.
