The Clinical Research Centre was developed in 1994 to support the research activities of the staff of the school and to develop the school's profile as a centre for allied health professional research. In addition, the Clinical Research Centre is the focus for the support of research student education, training and supervision.
From small beginnings with a part-time Head of Research and a full-time administrator and a full-time research assistant, the Clinical Research Centre has developed over the years into a fully functional entity with its own dedicated accommodation.
The centre houses a full-time head of research, three full-time equivalent administrators, two part-time administrators, six research officers, one research fellow, three senior research fellows, and a reader. In addition, five honorary visiting fellows are associated with the Clinical Research Centre. The honorary fellows are mostly clinicians with research interests and are based in the NHS. One of our visiting fellows is however based in industry and is linked with us for work involving the Department of Health and industrial partners. In addition, a principal lecturer is attached to the Clinical Research Centre for part of her time and she is programme leader for the Professional Doctorate programme in Health and Social Care which the Clinical Research Centre hosts on behalf of the Faculty of Health and Social Science and the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
Links with local NHS Trusts are facilitated through membership of four local NHS R&D committees, through membership of the BSMS (Brighton and Sussex Medical School) research and development advisory group and through membership of several local NHS R&D committees.
