Rob Gissing who studies PE with QTS in Eastbourne won two Gold medals in a recent competition. The Golds came in the National Qingda (Points scoring San Shou) and National Shuai Jiao (Chinese Wrestling) categories at the British Council of Chinese Martial Arts (BCCMA) National Sparring Championships in September of 2011. Rob had straight finals for the Shuai Jiao and won convincingly conceding only one point. He then faced three fights in the Qingda event and won all three to take gold in both of the events that he entered. Rob said ‘the Qingda competition is a good warm up event for future San Shou competitions later this season.’ He went on to say ‘the Shuai Jiao event serves as finding a Great Britain Champion that can compete in the European event later this year in Italy, for which I qualified for the GB squad.’ Unfortunately due to other circumstances Rob is unable to take the opportunity to compete for GB but qualifying has certainly boosted his confidence. Rob is on the university’s talented athlete programme.
