Sport Brighton revealed its newest sports provision last week with the appearance of two outdoor table tennis tables on campus. The concrete tables have been located outside the Sport Brighton reception in Moulsecoomb (below) and the sun terrace at Falmer (above). Sport Brighton successfully bid for the tables from the English Table Tennis Association (ETTA) in January this year. The tables were installed by Concrete Sports and mean that table tennis can be enjoyed whenever students and staff want, no booking required.
Michelle Bennett Deputy Head of Sport at the University of Brighton said ‘this is a great opportunity to get people more active. The tables are highly visible and easily accessible in the centre of campuses, meaning more people can get involved in active, healthy and fun sporting activity.’
Bats and balls are available from Sport Brighton receptions. You can expect to see further table tennis opportunities in the area as Brighton and Hove will be hosts to the Ping project which will have outdoor tables made available across the City this summer.
Sarah Ison, Assistant Information Adviser, was one of the first to give the new tables a go. She said 'I really enjoyed an unplanned game of table tennis with a colleague one lunchtime after we spotted the outdoor table. It is a great idea to make breaks and lunches a bit more fun and active'.
Indoor table tennis sessions are also made available to all staff and students through the Parklife and Active8 programmes. Times of sessions can be found here for each campus. Hastings also benefited from the arrival of a table tennis table in the social area of the Havelock Road Campus at the start of the year. So wherever you are, you are never far away from a chance to play table tennis!
