Head of Sport Sarah Hogg was honoured to attend the Sussex Chairman’s Reception to celebrate sport and the launch of the Sussex Sports Awards 2012. The event which was held at the Sussex County Cricket Club was hosted by the Chairman of East Sussex County Council Councillor Chris Dowling and Chairman of West Sussex County Council Mike Coleman to honour Olympic and Paralympic athletes from across the County. The evening culminated in the official launch of the Sussex Sports Awards with former winner and now bronze medal winning Paralympian Ben Quilter (Judo) enthralling the assembled audience with an insight into the trials and tribulations he had to overcome to even make the Paralympics after herniating a disc in his spine and then snapping key knee ligaments only three months prior to the Games. This made his achievement even more praiseworthy.
At the launch, the University of Brighton was delighted to confirm their sponsorship of the Disabled Sports Personality of the Year Award, continuing our commitment to supporting Elite and Elite Disability sport performers. The Sussex Sports Award event held in November, is the largest celebration of its kind in the county and the whole sporting community is represented in the award categories, from volunteers and sports clubs, to Elite Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
The event will be held on Friday 23 November, from 6:00pm at the Brighton Hilton Metropole.
