Phase 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation is an exercise programme run at a local community or sports centre which is specifically designed to help those with heart conditions to protect health by maintaining and improving fitness.
The Eastbourne Phase 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation has been running successfully now for seven years at the University of Brighton in Eastbourne. Our programme of continued exercise sessions is designed to directly follow on from a Phase 3 Cardiac Rehabilitation programme or for those with established heart conditions whose GP thinks it would be beneficial.
Phase 4 Cardiac Rehab is relevant for:
- Anyone who has had a hospital intervention for a cardiac condition and who has completed Phase 3 Cardiac Rehabilitation
- Anyone who has a stable form of cardiovascular disease and who is referred to us by the hospital, GP or another Phase 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation instructor
About the programme
Eastbourne Phase 4 Cardiac Rehab is a 10-week programme of exercise developed and implemented using the latest guidance from the British Association of Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation (BACPR). Our exercise programme has been designed to ensure all exercises we teach are both safe and effective for those with heart conditions.
Being part of the University of Brighton at Eastbourne we are also fortunate to have a close links with academic exercise science professionals who support us in ensuring the programme is reviewed and revised in line with the latest knowledge to maintain health and reduce the risk of further cardiac events.
When sessions take place
Sessions are held twice weekly, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:45-11:00am.
We offer at least two sessions of exercise a week as these will help maintain and possibly improve fitness levels. However, to best maintain fitness and reduce heart risk it is recommended exercisers also perform at least one further exercise activity during the week – this can be any exercise you enjoy performed at a moderate level after a minimum of 15 minutes of warm-up exercise.
We understand that for some with work or other time pressures attending twice a week for 10-weeks may be difficult, so we try to be flexible and are open to discuss attendance on a once-a-week basis.
