Karen Winkler
BA (Hons) Tourism Management, 2003
"When I came to London in 1999 to study Tourism Management, I had never heard of Eastbourne or the University of Brighton. But that quickly changed when I decided to change universities a year later. I went to Eastbourne to visit the university on an Open Day and from there on it was an easy decision: I chose Eastbourne because of the modules offered on the course, the small and lovely campus, friendly staff and the town’s seaside location.
Once I had finished my course in 2003, I decided to continue my studies, this time for a Masters degree in Tourism Planning and Development, as I wanted to specialise in this field.
Since graduating from there, I have managed to secure my dream job in which
I have been working for a year now. I am a project assistant for a small German
company, which specialises in tourism market research, tourism consultancy
and general tourism research. As such, we undertake the most established German
travel survey, the ‘Reiseanalyse’, every year and provide tourism
consultancy services to mainly local and regional authorities all over Germany
as well as to domestic and foreign tourist boards.
In my job, I can and have to apply a lot of the professional and academic knowledge
I have gained at university. Being fluent in English is another big advantage,
which my colleagues appreciate very much. But most of all, I wouldn’t
want to miss the lovely time I had in Eastbourne."
