Pastoral care
Chaplaincy staff are here to support you with help and advice – whether on social, academic or spiritual matters – to help you feel comfortable during your time at university. Students are encouraged to make contact with the team to discuss how we can help.
Community outreach
The St Vincent de Paul Society provides opportunities for students to get involved with local outreach agencies in the community. These include:
- care for the homeless in Brighton (soup run)
- working in local charity shops
- supporting refugees
- supporting students and staff in a local special school.
Malagiri project
Staff and students at the School of Education, along with Blanaid McCauley from the Chaplaincy, have been busy raising funds to start a school in rural Nepal for children who have no access to education, as part of the Malagiri project.
A staggering £42,000 has been raised by staff and students to build the school, buy equipment and pay teachers' salaries. The fund raising activities included cake sales, sponsored walks and runs, a quiz night, memorial gifts as well as donations from staff and students. The school opened in April 2011.

Additionally, the collection from the 2010 Brighton Carol Service and proceeds of the knitted tree decorations by the 'Knitting and Nattering Group' also contributed to the project. Find out more about A School for Malagiri.

Knitting and nattering
Join a popular 'credit crunch' pursuit and use craft as a universal language to socialise and break down barriers.
Bring along your existing project or start something new. Any wool/knitting needle donations are gratefully received. All students, staff and members of the wider community are welcome – these are open sessions so drop in as and when you can. No skill is required and refreshments are provided.
