Student life

Computing and media

The university has over 1,400 PC and Mac computers for you to use, located in libraries and computer rooms – many of which are open at evenings and weekends. All students are given their own university email address and file storage space.

You can easily connect to the Internet and university network using your own computer. Internet access is free and fast and connections points are located around the university as well as in most halls of residence rooms.

Printers are available near all university-based computers and computer points.

Digital learning materials feature in many academic programmes.

Other online services include a digital library (a web gateway to a vast array of electronic resources chosen to help you with course work and projects), chat rooms for social and academic discussions, and a wide range of software.

Media Centres on each main campus offer a range of video and audio recording equipment for you to use, together with facilities for editing and copying. Media Centres also provide facilities for presenting in lecture theatres and teaching rooms.
