University of Brighton care leaver's bursary
The bursary is a package made up of a cash bursary, reduced fees and discounts for university services including accommodation. The University of Brighton care leaver's bursary is funded by the National Scholarship Programme. It does not need to be repaid.

How it works
When you complete your UCAS application form, make sure you that you indicate that you have been in local authority care. Once you have been offered a place at the University of Brighton, we will send you an eligibility questionnaire to complete.

Who is eligible for this bursary?
You are eligible for a care leaver's bursary if you are:
- under the age of 25 and have been cared for by a local authority for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14 and/or are living in supported accommodation and eligible for a Foyer University Bursary
- have an annual household income of up to and including £25,000
- an undergraduate student from England
- eligible for the standard government student support package of maintenance grant and student loans for fees and living costs
- entering higher education for the first time in 2012 or later
- studying for an undergraduate honours degree or foundation degree at the University of Brighton or
- studying for a University of Brighton undergraduate or foundation degree at City College Brighton and Hove, Sussex Coast College Hastings, Plumpton College or Sussex Downs College
- not in receipt of either the University of Brighton widening access or Aimhigher bursaries.
Exceptions
Nursing, midwifery, social work and allied health professions (AHP) courses have different tuition fee and funding arrangements and are not part of the National Scholarship Programme. Students on these courses do not qualify for the University of Brighton care leaver’s bursary. Students on these courses may be eligible for support from the Access to Learning Fund.
Your eligibility for a University of Brighton care leaver's bursary may be affected if you already have a degree or other higher education qualification and you study for another qualification at the same or a lower level.
When will my bursary be paid?
You will receive your bursary in each year of your course subject to you still meeting the eligibility criteria.
Your bursary will be paid at the beginning of the autumn term, in each year of your course.
