Full-time undergraduate student from an EU country

This page provides a summary of the funding and fee system for full-time undergraduate students from EU countries other than the UK. Please follow the links provided for more detailed information on funding, loans, bursaries and fees.

Living costs

Before you begin your studies here you should make sure that you have adequate funds to cover your living costs for the duration of your course.

Tuition fees - how much are my fees?

From 2011, UK and EU students at the University of Brighton will be charged tuition fees of up to £3,375 a year for their first undergraduate qualification. Fees rise by a small percentage each year, in line with inflation. You don't need to pay your tuition fees whilst you are studying (although you can if you wish).

Tuition fees - how can I pay my fees?

You can 'study now and pay later' by taking out a student loan to cover the cost of your tuition fees. Students will be sent tuition fee loan application forms by the Student Finance Services European Team. You don't have to begin repaying your Student Loan until you finish your course and are earning more than £15,000 a year, or equivalent. These student loans have a low rate of interest which is linked to inflation.

University of Brighton bursaries

Students from EU countries who meet household income and other qualifying criteria are eligible for University of Brighton income-related bursaries. For students starting courses for the first time in 2011 these bursaries are worth between £500 and £900 a year.

To be assessed you have to complete an application for Student Finance (if you do not require a tuition fee loan you must enter £0 in the fee amount requested).  Once this has been processed by the EU Team of Student Finance a bursary application will be sent to them at their your home address. This is so that you can be income assessed.

University of Brighton scholarships

Students from across the EU are eligible for University of Brighton scholarships. 105 scholarships, worth £500 each, will be awarded at the end of years 1 and 2, and year 3 of four-year courses, as well as years 1 to 4 of five-year Brighton and Sussex Medical School degrees. These scholarships recognise the achievements of students since starting at the university. A range of sporting scholarships, worth between £500 and £1,500 per year, are also available.
