Postgraduate student from the UK or another EU country
This page provides a summary of the funding and fee system for postgraduate students from the UK and EU. Please follow the links provided for more detailed information on funding, loans, bursaries and fees.
What funding is available?
Postgraduate students, with the exception of those studying on a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) course or an allied health professional course, are not entitled to any statutory funding and the majority are self-financing. Before you begin your course you should make sure that you have adequate funds to cover your living costs for the duration of your course.
Publicly funded research councils offer a small number of studentships to fund students studying specific subjects. Awards are made on an individual basis and can be made to cover fees, living expenses, travel and field trip costs, academic materials and other expenses.
Tuition fees - how much are my fees?
Tuition fees for the majority of our postgraduate taught courses and research degrees range from £4,086 to £17,280 per year depending on the type of course. A small number of postgraduate courses, including the MBA, charge non-standard fees outside this range which can be higher. For all our postgraduate courses, exact tuition fees can be found via our course finder which also includes detailed course information and key facts.
Postgraduate fees for students from the UK and other EU countries generally rise in line with inflation by a small percentage each year.
University contracts with the NHS enable many NHS staff to access all university courses without payment of fees. NHS staff need to contact the trust that employs them for further details.
Tuition fees - how can I pay my fees?
Tuition fees are payable from the first day of your course. It is possible to pay your fees in up to six instalments.
