Student support

There are a number of support arrangements for UK Erasmus students.

Tuition fees

If you take part in the Erasmus programme you continue paying tuition fees to the University of Brighton. You do not pay tuition fees to your host institution.

However, students completing an Erasmus placement in 2012/13 may be eligible for a fee waiver, depending on the following criteria:

  • You must be a first degree student
  • You must be eligible for UK student support (i.e. eligible for a student tuition fee loan)
  • You must spend a full academic year abroad

Non-Erasmus students who spend all or any part of the year abroad on an industrial placement are not eligible for a tuition fee waiver.

Student loans and grants

If you receive a UK grant or loan you should continue to receive this during your Erasmus placement. You may be entitled to a higher rate of loan or grant based on the cost of living in your host country, but you should check this with your Local Authority directly.

Mobility grant

If you take part in the Erasmus programme you may be eligible for an Erasmus mobility grant. The grant is intended to offset part of the additional cost of living in another country, and should not be expected to cover all your expenses.

Travel grant from your Local Authority

You may be entitled to financial support towards the reasonable cost of one return journey, but you will have to pay the first £280. Check with your Local Authority about your entitlement.

Disability support

If you have severe disabilities you may be entitled to additional funding to help you participate in the Erasmus Programme.
