Darren Beaney
Environmental Sciences BSc(Hons)
As I came a bit late to Higher Education, it was important to find the right course in a place where I'd feel at home. I chose Brighton because it is totally unstuffy and down-to-earth in its attitude.
This course broadens your outlook and challenges your assumptions. I thought I knew what aspects of environmental science I wanted to study, but my interests have taken off in a completely different direction.
There are students here of all ages and nationalities and I've felt really at home. I've been involved in the students' union and was invited to speak to a Parliamentary Select Committee on Higher Education and Life-long Learning, and addressed a meeting of various MPs at the Labour Party conference - something I could never have envisaged before I came.
Doing this has been one of the best decisions I've made - it's been a brilliant time.
