Medicine BM BS

I applied to Brighton because I liked the integrated structure of the course. It has exceeded my expectations in almost every way. All the staff are really friendly and accessible, we have clinical contact with patients almost from day one and, during the first year, we visit eight hospital departments in local hospitals.

We are getting a real taste of medicine right from the start. I did my first injection in December, a subcutaneous travel vaccine. Suddenly I felt like a real doctor!

I am secretary of the Medical Society and get very involved in organising student events and making contact with other medical schools and organisations like the BMA. We set up a mentoring scheme so that second-years can help first-year students settle in and find their way about. We are also trying to set up a trip to the Holby City set to see how realistic it is and how the actors prepare for their roles.

Eventually I want to specialise in paediatrics - I think that it will be a fascinating and satisfying area to work in.
