Podiatry BSc(Hons)
I had been out of nursing for 10 years and decided to investigate podiatry instead. I am very impressed with the course, although it is very hard work.
Podiatry is the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of conditions of the lower limb and feet. Patients are referred to the university's Leaf Hospital from a local Primary Care Trust, and we were hands-on from year one, working with patients in regular clinics. All sorts of people come in, from a three-year-old child to a 96-year-old.
I have also been on two work placements in London which have been brilliant. I gained more practical experience and learned lots from the sheer variety of patients attending.
I'm definitely a more confident person than before I started the course. I am able to talk to people and get involved with all sorts of different activities - I am now a school governor which I wouldn't have considered before.
When I graduate, I plan to work in the NHS to gain more experience. I'm especially interested in working with the elderly and in rheumatology.
