Falmer Sustainability Action Network
Following a short break, the Falmer network was re-launched in May 2012, with an event taking stock not only of what the Environmental Action Network had achieved in previous years, but also what the university is doing to promote sustainability.
At the Sustainability Action Network meeting, presentations were received from co-ordinators of the activities which developed out of the previous called Environmental Action Network. There were also presentations from support departments illustrating their commitment to sustainability in their work practices, and specific projects to promote sustainability in the university. Information from these presentations is summarised in the document 'Sustainability in Falmer May 2012'.
Network events will be arranged each term, to support the organised activities, and to develop new initiatives to promote sustainability on the campus.
All staff and students are warmly invited to attend to share their ideas and to contribute to a cleaner, greener, active campus.

Food growing at Falmer
Staff from the Falmer Sustainability Action Network have started their own campus allotment with help from the Springboard grants programme and Health Promoting University Project.

As simple as spotting faulty taps
Cath Couper brought up the topic of taps at a Sustainability Action Network meeting. The problem was passed on to Estates & Facilities Management who found many faulty taps needed replacing. Water and heating saved!

Cycle access to Falmer campus
The Sustainability Action Network has continuously helped to improve the situation for cyclists getting to the Falmer campus. There is a new route under construction through the Aldridge Academy which enables cyclists step-free access to reach the campus.

Food co-op at Falmer
Staff and students are now running the University of Brighton Food Co-op at Falmer, the third campus to open operations.

Composting in Cockcroft
Sustainability Action Network members worked with Estates & Facilities Management to install Green Johanna composters in the central courtyard at Cockcroft. Go and have a wander, why not put your banana peels there?

Ramble in Falmer woodland
Staff in the Falmer SAN lead regular rambles during lunch time, a great way to get away from the computer and explore the local environment.

Litter Picking in Falmer
Members of the Falmer Sustainability Action Network started a litter picking campaign to keep the site enjoyable and clean. They remove littler from the surrounding woodland too, keeping local wildlife safe and improving the experience for ramblers.
