People and Planet's Green League is described as 'the only comprehensive and independent league table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance'.
Every year most of the universities in the UK provide lots of information about their policies and performance. People and Planet then score and rank the different universities with regards to how well they're doing.
The University of Brighton has been submitting their stats towards Green League since the first list in 2007 and has stepped up steadily from 50th in 2007 to 3rd in 2012.
The table below shows the university's progression from 2011 to 2012. Last year the University of Brighton ranked 21st in the Green League tables with a score of 40.5/70. This year the university is ranked 3rd out of 145 universities and higher education institutions with a score of 54/70.
Our strengths in 2012 continue to be in ethical investment, staff and student engagement, sustainable development in the curriculum where the university scored full poiints. We also have fantastic achievements in ethical procurement, fairtrade and sustainable food.
From last year, the university has really improved on environmental policies, carbon management, and environmental auditing.
We are the only university in the top 10 that have stars across all the categories, which shows a very well rounded performance and that students and staff across the university have worked very hard to contribute to our success.
