Sustainable development

The university aims to become a centre of excellence in building sustainability into research and teaching and learning and work with local, regional, national and global bodies to help build sustainable learning communities.

The university makes a significant contribution to sustainable development, not only in our role as a recognised provider of research and teaching, but also the way we perform as a business and engage positively with the local and wider community. If sustainable development is to be achieved, economic, social and environmental goals must be progressed simultaneously.

The university's commitment to sustainable development is outlined in our corporate plan. This states that "[we accept] the challenge of incorporating sustainable development in all that we do, including in the way our staff and students work and learn".

You can download the sustainable development policy (40k pdf).

The sustainable development policy is delivered by the university's Sustainable Development Policy Management Group (SDPMG). The group is chaired by Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Professor Stuart Laing.
